Mum shares ‘brilliant’ item to ‘whiten’ dull whites without white vinegar or baking soda

When washed incorrectly, laundry garments including towels, socks and t-shirts can all turn a greyish colour in the wash.

To keep them looking pristine, fans of Mrs Hinch have shared how they keep their clothes white.

Posting on the Mrs Hinch Cleaning Tips Facebook page, Sue Tucker posted: “I’m about to go on holiday so I thought I’d use a 60C wash on my whites on a white setting.

“Quite a few things were looking a bit grey. I used washing soda, Oxy powder for whites and a Persil washing pod.

“Even on a 60C wash, nothing came out any whiter. I don’t know what to try next. Any ideas, please? My bras that were bought as white are really grey now. Help.”

The post attracted several comments from cleaning enthusiasts all recommending different products, including Napisan.

Fiona Clarke said: “Napisan or Dr Beckmann Glowhite and don’t use pods with white items, use white powder not coloured pods.”

Sharon Stoddart commented: “Soak and wash whites in Napisan, it’s brilliant.” Alison Lister suggested: “Soak in Napisan, does my children’s and it’s brilliant.”

Vicky Robinson wrote: “Soak for a few days in Napisan then do normal a wash. A hot wash, I don’t believe in.”

Susan Gorman posted: “I soaked my bra in a lingerie whitener (from a supermarket) then washed normally with other whites on 40C with added Napisan. Now in my drawer rather than the bin!”

Gabrielle O’Donaughey wrote: “Helps to whiten clothes in as little as 10 minutes.”

Napisan can be purchased online or from most local supermarkets for around £4.50 a box.

It can be added with detergent into the drawer or can be used to soak clothes for effective stain removal.

What’s more, it also kills 99.9 percent of bacteria in laundry, removing stains on as little as 30C.

The product received five-star ratings on the Waitrose website where the laundry item is currently on offer for £4.

One review read: “I add this to my white washes to remove stains and generally brighten. It’s must better than most other stain removers I have tried.

“Fantastic on linen clothes, has removed stains quickly which previously only significant bleaching could tackle.”

Another said: “I can achieve the best results with this product on baby clothing, better than any other brand.”
