UK homes will get a massive broadband boost later this year with EE looking set to roll out a super speedy new router. The BT-owned firm is already offering some customers access to downloads in excess of 1.5Gbps but soon it will also launch a powerful new Wi-Fi device to help keep pace with our digital needs. Although there’s no release date pencilled in the diary just yet, EE has given Express.co.uk a sneak peek at what’s to come and, despite its mini appearance, it certainly seems pretty mighty.
One of the biggest new features of this router is the addition of Wi-Fi 7. Current routers offered by most Internet Service Providers only offer Wi-Fi 5 and Wi-Fi but that will change when EE launches its latest device. This very latest technology is not only able to cope with much faster speeds but can also supply those rapid downloads to more devices at the same time.
That means homes with multiple users streaming 8K video, downloading massive PS5 games and making Zoom calls to the office at the same time should never notice a dip in performance.
EE is also promising that its new router will suffer from less interference and offer more capacity for busy homes.
As the exclusive pictures reveal, it will feature a neat white and grey design made from 95% recycled plastic and stand at just 10 inches tall. It will also work with advanced new services and features that can be controlled via the EE app.
So why is EE getting this speedy new router and not BT?
Announced late last year, EE is now the firm’s flagship brand for broadband. Although this service is powered by BT, the EE name will placed more in the limelight moving forward.
That’s why this new device will be offered to EE broadband users and have the EE logo placed on its casing.

What is Wi-Fi 7?
Wi-Fi 7 allows customers to benefit from multi-gigabit Wi-Fi throughout the home with faster speed, less interference, more capacity and better performance to support the many high-bandwidth activities of the future.
So, if your kids are downloading or steaming huge PS5 games, you will still be able to watch Netflix in 4K, make Zoom calls and listen to music online without any stuttering.
Will Wi-Fi 7 work on all of my devices?
Wi-Fi 7 is a new technology and not all laptops, phones and tablets are compatible just yet. This is likely to change in the future and expect more devices to get Wi-Fi 7 built in over the coming months.
