Mum-of-ten 'heartbroken and lost' after only daughter killed in horror crash

A mum-of-ten has spoken of her heartbreak after the tragic death of her only daughter, saying it “will never get easier”. Courtney Marie Sampson, 19, died in a crash involving a yellow quad bike and a black Ford Mondeo saloon in Birkenhead.

The teen’s boyfriend, Dylan Hall, was driving the quad bike with Courtney as a passenger. He was also hospitalised with multiple injuries. The driver of the Ford, a 37-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving and being under the influence of drink or drugs. The man was released under investigation.

Leanne Carr, Courtney’s mum, told the Liverpool ECHO: “As a mother, I have to do my best to hold the family together. When I told my first-born son what had happened, he couldn’t accept that his baby sister was gone.”

She added: “I saw my daughter for the first time today in a funeral home. She will be put to rest in the next few weeks and it will be attended by loved ones who loved her and who loved her for her.”

Leanne also revealed that Courtney was due to take her driving test on March 26, but now she’ll never get the chance. She said: “I’m heartbroken and lost and it will never get easier.”

Detective Sergeant Andy Roper, from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “This is a complex investigation as we seek to establish what happened in the lead up to the collision and the movements of both vehicles.”

He added: “We are currently searching for any witnesses or any CCTV or dashcam footage that may have captured the incident or either vehicle in the time immediately before the collision.

“I would ask anyone who was driving in the general area of Hoylake Road, Stanley Road, Wallasey Bridge Road or who lives in the area please check your CCTV systems or contact our team and we will review any footage or information you may have.”
