Meghan Markle's other Emmys snub years before Netflix show setback

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are feeling “wounded” after being snubbed at the Emmys – but it’s not the first time Meghan has missed out at the awards. The pair are said to be disappointed that their Netflix docuseries was not nominated for an Emmy Award despite topping the charts in 2023 with 81.6bn watching hours.

Experts claim the couple were “100 percent certain” they would receive an award at the ceremony, which they did not attend in 2023 or 2024.

Royal PR expert Lynn Carratt said it was a huge blow for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

She said: “Meghan and Harry may feel slightly wounded by not receiving an Emmy Nomination, despite their Harry and Meghan docuseries becoming a record for the biggest debut for a Netflix documentary, reaching more than 28 million households, but they were up against some tough competition for nominations.”

Ms Carratt went on to say it was not the first time the Sussexes had been snubbed.

She added: “It’s also not the first time the couple have missed out on an Emmy Nomination. Their bombshell 2021 interview with Oprah Winfrey was nominated in the Outstanding Hosted Nonfiction Series or Special category, but not Harry and Meghan personally, but Oprah herself and the program’s producers.

“Meghan herself is no stranger to missing out on Emmy nominations, she spent seven seasons in the TV show ‘Suits’ which never received any prestigious Emmy or Global Globe award nominations.

“She was submitted for nomination in 2018 for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for her last season starring as Rachel Zane in Suits, but she never made the cut.”

Ms Carratt said the snub would have impacted Meghan more than Harry saying it is likely to be one of her ambitions in life to receive such an accolade.

The Press Box PR expert concluded she thinks the couple will now focus on achieving a producer award nomination for productions such as their upcoming movie, Meet Me at the Lake.
