Meghan Markle's mouthpiece takes aim at William and Kate as he highlights key difference

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s biographer Omid Scobie has made a sly dig at Prince William and Princess Kate on X after pictures of the Sussexes attending the Bob Marley: One Love premiere in Jamaica.

The couple made a surprise appearance at the Carib Theatre in Kingston, the country’s capital, and posed alongside the Prime Minister Andrew Holness and his wife Juliet.

Taking to social media the author of Endgame shared a video of the premiere, captioning the post: “A different vibe to the last time we saw PM Andrew Holness with members of the Royal Family…”

He appeared to be referencing the royal visit to the Caribbean in March 2022, in which Prince William and Princess Kate visited Belize, Jamaica and the Bahamas.

The tour was overshadowed with complaints that the images released had overtones of colonialism, particularly one unfortunate shot in Jamaica which saw the Waleses on one side of a chain fence greeting a group of children.

William and Kate also met with Prime Minister Holness, which is bound to raise a few eyebrows as the politician has scheduled a referendum on Jamaica’s potential decision to cut ties with the British monarchy scheduled for this year.

While the Caribbean island is an independent country as of 1962 it remains a member of the Commonwealth, however there has been speculation that it may press ahead to remove King Charles as head of state.

In 2021 Barbados, another Caribbean country, made the decision to remove Queen Elizabeth as their head of state and become a republic within the Commonwealth.

The Sussexes were all smiles at the premiere on Tuesday night, with Meghan donning a black spaghetti-strap gown and gold earrings, with her hair slicked back in a chic bun.

Harry was also seen greeting and hugging Ziggy Marley, the son of Bob and Rita Marley, who produced the film set to be released in British cinemas on February 16.

It is unclear why the Duke and Duchess were invited, although the film stars other British talent such as Kingsley Ben-Adir and Lashana Lynch as Bob and Rita and James Norton as producer Chris Blackwell.

It is not the first time Harry and Meghan have visited the island, as the Duke travelled there in 2012 as part of his Diamond Jubilee tour, and he later flew there with Meghan to attend the wedding of Tom ‘Skippy’ Inskip and Lara Hughes-Young.

Interestingly enough Meghan’s first wedding to Hollywood producer Trevor Engelson in 2011 was also held in Jamaica, at the resort of Ocho Rios.

The couple divorced in 2013 while Meghan was filming suits in Toronto, with the distance between them thought to be a contributing factor to the decision.
