Meghan Markle's memoir would 'sadden' Royal Family as they 'put motto into play'

Meghan Markle would upset the Royal Family if she decided to follow in her husband’s footsteps and write her own memoir, a PR expert has claimed.

The Duchess of Sussex, 42, and her husband Prince Harry have a four-book deal with Penguin Random House.

Meghan has already written ‘The Bench’ which was published in June 2021, and Prince Harry’s memoir, spare, was released in January 2023.

The couple are also reportedly working on a wellness book together, and the fourth book could reportedly be a memoir by Meghan.

As rumours swirl that the Duchess might write her own book, a top PR expert shared her thoughts on how the Royal Family might react to such a publication.

Lynn Carratt from Press Box PR told The Mirror: “I wouldn’t say King Charles or other senior members of the Royal family would be greatly worried about a Meghan Markle memoir; they would be more saddened than anything else. I’m sure he’ll be thinking not again.”

She continued: “Especially as it is believed that the relationship between King Charles and Harry is warming after they shared a phone call for the Monarch’s birthday.

“I’m sure Charles wants a cordial relationship with his son, daughter-in-law and grandchildren and to put the last few years behind him, but every time Meghan and Harry’s camp releases some more stories, their father-and-son relationship goes two steps back.”

Carratt pointed out how the Royal Family “have already had a turbulent time” after “weathering the storm of the couple’s Oprah Winfrey interview, Omid Scobie’s books Finding Freedom and Endgame, Harry and Meghan’s Netflix documentary and Harry’s memoir Spare”.

She went on: “In any case, they always put their infamous motto into play: ‘Never complain, never explain’ and continue their business as usual.”

Wrapping up her analysis of the situation of Meghan possibly writing a memoir, she said: “There is a global fascination with the Royal Family, and fans are keen to read about the inner workings of the Royal Family and Meghan’s personal relationships with them.

“Talking about the Royal Family will sell more books than if Meghan talks about her life pre-Harry and her life in a memoir.”
