McDonald's announces major change to its burgers including the Big Mac

McDonald’s currently has 19 burgers on UK menus ranging from stacked beef patties to coated chicken and of course, the Filet-o-Fish.

The fast-food chain is known for its offering of these moreish snacks, so it’s no surprise that the Big Mac is the most popular and best-selling menu item.

Since its launch in 1967, the product has remained largely the same – made from two 100 percent beef patties layered between lettuce, cheese, gherkins, onions, and the iconic Big Mac sauce, all served on a sesame seed bun.

But now the trademark McDonald’s burger is about to undergo a huge change.

Along with its other classic beef burgers, the fast-food giant claims that it will make them “better than ever before” with the “most significant change in decades”.

McDonald’s has made small modifications to the way it cooks and prepares its much-loved beef burgers, enhancing all the elements customers enjoy most.

In honour of its 50th anniversary, restaurants will start to put onions on top of each patty while they are cooking on the grill for extra flavour, while also changing the sear of the beef patties among other things.

It comes following the success of the changes in both the Australian and US markets which have been claimed to incorporate greater quality and flavour into the beef.

The reimagined classic beef burgers will be available in restaurants from mid-March, though an exact date is yet to be confirmed.

How McDonald’s beef burgers will change

Beef patties

McDonald’s staff will now cook the patties with a tighter sear on the grill, resulting in hotter and juicier beef patties for maximum flavour.

Grilled onions

The classic diced onions will now be used as a topping for the patties while they’re still cooking. This is thought to add extra colour and “a better charred flavour”.

Lettuce

Fresh lettuce taken straight from the fridge will be used in meaty beef burgers for cleaner, crunchier results.

Cheese

The hotter beef patties will make the cheese melt until smooth and oozing over the sides.

New buns

The signature sesame seed buns will be replaced with a buttery, brioche-style alternative for a soft and pillowy taste. These will be freshly toasted to order to ensure a crunchy exterior.

Mcdonald’s burgers changing this month

Five burgers will be given a flavour facelift as part of the revised recipes.

  • Big Mac
  • Quarter Pounder with Cheese
  • Cheeseburger
  • Double Cheeseburger
  • Tripe Cheeseburger
