Major boost to UK's 'worst seaside town' as tourists fall in love with 'golden beach'

Despite the UK being in the freezing grip of winter Britons are braving visits to our coastal resorts, with some hailing a visit to Blackpool Beach in January. A relaxing place for a dip in the sea in the heat of summer, this stretch of England’s coastline still welcomes visitors when the mercury dips.

Visitors have taken to Tripadvisor to share their reflections on Blackpool – often described as the UK’s “worst” seaside town – with one describing the location as a “sight to behold”.

Layla B, whose review was posted in February last year, wrote: “Freezing cold in January but still a sight to behold. Could see it each morning from our hotel window so couldn’t resist going for a splash through the puddles.

“I bet this is fabulous in the summer. Was surprised at how clean it was. We just sat on the steps for ages watching the tide come in but then it was time to move!”

Visit Blackpool hails the town’s beach as an ideal location for the whole family, with plenty of space for sandcastles, sunbathing and games.

There are also three piers along the town’s promenade: Grade II-listed North Pier, home to North Pier Theatre, as well as Central Pier and South Pier, not far from Blackpool Pleasure Beach.

The news will come as major boost to residents of Blackpool, after the area itself hit the headlines recently after being identified as the most deprived town in the country. Locals told The Sun of druggies using in public and children playing outside without shoes.

The town’s council insists, however, that it is committed to improving residents’ quality of life as well as continuing to attract the millions of people who visit each year.

Other visitors to Blackpool Beach who posted reviews on Tripadvisor pointed to a lack of shower facilities for those looking to wash the sea and sand off their toes.

Khoyrul A demanded the town put up shower cubicles, while others were divided over the cleanliness of the beach itself, with some pointing out litter and others saying the site was spotlessly clean during their visit. Another reviewer, posting from an account named kbAVfc7, praised the town and how it has changed over the years.

They described the seafront as “stunning” and that it was “nice” to see people of “all nationalities” enjoying the sun and sand. The reviewer congratulated all those involved in bringing this “typical costal seaside town” back to its “former glory”.

Meanwhile visitor Sam B, from Lydd, added: “Lovely beach, miles of lovely golden sand, very nice walk along the prom. Lots to do and lots of places to visit.”
