Best room in the home for a peace lily houseplant – and top care tips

A pretty peace lily has distinctive white petal-like spathes that stand tall above glossy green leaves, but an unhappy houseplant will turn brown.

“Very dry air can cause leaf browning,” noted the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS).

To guarantee beautiful flowers, the best room in the home for a peace lily is the bathroom.

Peace lilies love consistently warm environments that are moderately humid, hence why the bathroom is the ideal location for the houseplant.

Plus, Patch Plants confirmed that a peace lily “will survive in most light conditions”, so it may not matter if your bathroom doesn’t get too much natural light – or any at all, for that matter.

Peace lilies still require watering, though, as a dehydrated plant will droop. Preferring rain water to tap water, once hydrated, a peace lily will soon perk up.

The RHS added: “Mist plants regularly or stand them on a tray of damp gravel. The roots can rot if the compost is damp for long periods, so take care not to overwater.”

As the peace lily prefers humid environments, take care not to place the houseplant near a radiator or cold draughts.

Be aware that the peace lily, while beautiful, are poisonous so they must be kept out of reach from children and pets.

“Also wear gloves when handling them, as the sap can cause skin irritation,” the RHS said.

When it comes to spring, to keep the peace lily happy, you must feed the plant every two weeks until autumn.

Bloom and Wild pointed out an additional attribute to the gorgeous peace lily. Not only does it look stunning to look at, but it also has air-purifying qualities.

Great for filertering out harmful toxins in the air, the peace lily housplant can revived if it’s starting to falter.

Any browned leaves require pruning, which could be symptomatic of too much direct sunlight or overwatering so it’s easy to repair.
