Lucky houseplants 'believed to bring good luck and prosperity' – and how to care for them

Whether you are superstitious or not, a few lovely-looking houseplants in the home help to make the space feel more inviting and homely.

One of the most well-known houseplants known for prosperity is the money tree, which is a beautiful large, evergreen tree.

The Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) recommended a great spot to place the money tree – a conservatory, if you have one.

If not, Patch Plants suggested potting a money tree in a bright bathroom (if it has a window).

Alternatively, a money tree – “believed to bring good luck and prosperity to the home” – would flourish near a south or east-facing window as it enjoys bright light.

Do not, however, place a money tree in direct sunlight as the sun’s rays could be too strong and scorch the leaves.

If the money tree is craving more light, the leaves will become dry and droop to show its despair.

Top tips for plant care include watering only when the soil is completely dry and misting regularly to keep the leaves vibrant and green.

Money trees benefit from a monthly feed of balanced liquid fertiliser during spring and summer.

“Dilute the fertiliser to half strength and apply it to the soil around the root zone,” Patch Plants stated.

Money trees should be repotted every two to three years, or when roots are coming out of the nursery pot, or twisting and the plant is struggling to grow.

Pruning is not necessary, but you can trim off any dead or damaged leaves as needed.

Patch Plants said: “With proper care and attention, your money tree will thrive and bring good luck and prosperity to your home.”

Another houseplant known to bring wealth and prosperity is the Jade plant.

The Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) said the Jade plant likes bright, direct light and is strictly an indoor plant only.

The succulent only requires minimal watering to survive and is a hardy plant that is easy to care for.

Adding the Jade plant and the money tree to your home might just bring forth good luck throughout 2024 and beyond.
