Lloyds and Halifax customers have been warned that they may want to ditch their accounts as 20 bank branches are closing in just weeks. November is set to see a swathe of closures, including Lloyds Banking Group, Halifax and Santander. Money Saving Expert, the site founded by BBC and ITV star Martin Lewis, said this might prompt some customers to switch their bank.
Mr Lewis said: “If you no longer want to stay with Lloyds, Halifax or Bank of Scotland, you might want to consider switching to a bank that does have a local branch nearby – although bear in mind there’s no guarantee that won’t close as well.”
According to a Lloyds Banking Group spokesperson said, the closures are a result of the changing ways people are banking, with over 21 million of their customers choosing apps to manage their money.
“We’re providing more choice than ever before, bringing together the best in digital convenience with our people,” they said.
“Alongside our app, our customers can use any Lloyds, Halifax or Bank of Scotland branch, the Post Office or Banking Hubs for their everyday banking, and deposit cash at over 30,000 PayPoint locations.”
