Lee Anderson weighs in on Princess Kate photo row with surprising four-word statement

Lee Anderson has weighed in on the Princess of Wales photoshop row just minutes after shocking Westminster by defecting to Reform UK.

The former Tory vice chairman’s defection was almost upstaged by the royal row, when the Princess of Wales made a statement apologising for editing her mother’s day photo midway through the shocking Reform UK press conference.

However speaking after his unveiling as Richard Tice’s new star Red Wall player, Mr Anderson chose to side with the Royals and slapped down their critics.

Amid demands for answers from Kensington Palace, Mr Anderson told reporters: “Just leave her alone”.

Mr Anderson is not the first politician to offer a reaction to the news story gripping readers across the globe, however.

Speaking on Times Radio this morning, security minister Tom Tugendhat said that while many people “slightly improve” family photos, they should be “honest” and “accurate”.

Mr Tugendhat said: “You wouldn’t expect me to comment on any photos, particularly not on Mother’s Day, when I think many of us were snapping away and slightly improving photographs that we took of our mothers, but mostly of our kids who were sort of wriggling around”.

“So I’m not going to be judging on that. But I think it is important that we record what we put out is honest and that we record situations accurately.

“So I’m sure that like any family, there’s a few moments that you could get better.”

Asked whether his department would ever release a doctored or manipulated photo, the top Tory said: “We’re always very careful about what we put out”.
