Learners warned to avoid ‘key calendar dates’ when practicing driving this Christmas

The driving instructor company PassMeFast has shared the best times for learners to take to the roads over the Christmas period.

Whilst many motorists will take to the roads to see loved ones or travel to another part of the country for a festive getaway before the big day, the streets can be much quieter approaching New Years Day.

A spokesperson for PassMeFast noted that those wanting to take advantage of the roads over Christmas should avoid the big days.

They advised: “It’s important to be mindful of key calendar dates where the roads are likely to be busy over the festive period, like Mad Friday, Christmas Eve, and Boxing Day.

“Also keep an eye out for any festive events in general over Christmas time, as this will allow you to map out routes accordingly to avoid the area.”

PassMeFast recommended that early mornings on Sundays often make for the best time for motorists to learn how to drive.

Since the majority of shops do not open until 11am on Sundays, the company highlighted that fewer motorists will be travelling to buy gifts and items in the sales.

They also suggested that, during weekdays, it is best for learners to get behind the wheel during the evenings after the rush hour.

PassMeFast’s spokesperson also said that the roads are also quiet during mid-mornings and early afternoons during the week.

They continued: “Mid-morning or early afternoon are great times to gain confidence as a learner driver – the roads are often quieter due to people being at work, meaning you can practise your driving skills with less congestion and stressors.

“Alongside missing the morning, lunchtime and evening rush, choosing these times of day to practise means you can benefit from the hours of daylight.”
