King Charles’s most senior aide will step down later this year, in keeping with royal tradition.
Lord Parker of Minsere has announced he will be stepping down as Lord Chamberlain in keeping with a longstanding precedent that a new person is appointed to the role following the initial transition period of a new reign.
Lord Parker has held the role since 1 April 2021 and stayed on to help the King transition from Prince of Wales to monarch. Now that it has been over 16 months since Charles acceeded the role, it is now time for him to move on.
He will continue to support the King and Queen in an official capacity once he has stepped down from the role.
The Lord Chamberlain is an extremely important role within Buckingham Palace, as they serve as the most senior officer to the monarch, providing advice and support to them.
