King Charles to 'bravely' attend Trooping the Colour – but with one major change

King Charles is planning to attend Trooping the Colour 2024 for his official birthday celebration, but adjustments may have to be made due to his cancer treatment.

The King announced his diagnosis on February 5, and although he is thought to be doing well he may have to be driven in a carriage or watch the military spectacle from a podium rather than on horseback.

Similar accommodation was made for his late mother Queen Elizabeth during her final Trooping the Colour in 2022, which coincided with her Platinum Jubilee celebrations.

The Daily Mail reported that no firm decision will be made until closer to the day given the nature of the King’s condition and medical advice will be followed, but planning is currently going ahead as scheduled.

Queen Camilla will be at this year’s celebration on June 15, which is held as an official birthday event for the monarch each year, even though Charles’s actual birthday is on November 14.

So far the King has been advised by doctors not to attend large public events as he continues treatment for an undisclosed type of cancer.

He has been receiving treatments in London and retiring to Sandringham to convalesce, but he still gets his governmental red boxes everyday and attends meetings when possible.

Buckingham Palace have confirmed that planning is now underway for Trooping the Colour and staff are now considering their options to ensure the King will be able to attend as long as he “gets the nod” from his medical team.
