King Charles shows his true colours as he finally meets with Rishi Sunak face-to-face

King Charles was hailed by royal fans over his commitment to the crown after the monarch hosted his weekly audience with Prime Minister Rishi Sunak at Buckingham Palace on Wednesday.

The King carried out his first face-to-face official duty since it was announced earlier this month that he’s been diagnosed with cancer.

Beforehand, Charles also held an in-person Privy Council at the royal residence, where attendees included Lord President of the Council Penny Mordaunt and a selection of other ministers who are Privy Counsellors.

During the audience with Mr Sunak, the monarch revealed that he has been reduced to tears by the messages and cards of support he has received since his cancer diagnosis, as the Prime Minister told him the “country is behind you”.

Meanwhile, royal fans rushed to social media to express their gratitude and respect towards Charles and his continuing devotion to his public duties despite undergoing cancer treatment.

One user wrote on X: “Happy to the see the King, back to work and his Majesty looks so good” while another one said: “Isn’t it great to see our King in such good spirits is such difficult circumstances. Get well soon your Majesty, we are all behind you.”

A third one commented: “Great to see His Majesty back at work. I’m sure your Mother would be very proud, ‘I have to be seen to be believed.'”

Another user labelled the King a “warrior” while a sixth one chimed: “Lovely to see HM The King just keeping calm & carrying on.”

Lastly, a seventh user added: “HM looks remarkably well considering he’s having treatment for cancer. Good to see this glimpse of him carrying on as ever.”

King Charles has been carrying on with his red boxes of state papers behind the scenes as he started outpatient treatment for an undisclosed form of cancer just over two weeks ago.

The monarch faced a difficult start to 2024 with a three-night hospital stay for a procedure on an enlarged prostate, during which time his cancer was discovered.

Buckingham Palace has confirmed that it is not prostate cancer, however refused to disclose any other details on the King’s medical condition.
