King Charles jokes about his 'sausage fingers' with Prince William in unseen video

A clip from the upcoming Coronation documentary captures a joke between Prince William and King Charles over the King’s infamous “sausage fingers”.

During a rehearsal for the ceremony at Westminster Abbey the Prince of Wales was practising the moment he hands over the ‘Stole Royal’ to the monarch, an embroidered band of cloth which symbolises the sacred nature of kingship

William then comments about how fiddly the catch is and complains: “On the day, it’s not going to go on, is it?”, to which Charles humorously responds: “No, [But] you haven’t got sausage fingers like mine!”

In another charming moment the Prince is commenting on which of his father’s cheeks is preferable to kiss by tickling the King’s face and ultimately deciding: “Your left cheek is better!”

Royal fans online shared their joy at the upcoming programme, with one fan account posting: ” Aww how lovely! I can’t wait to watch this documentary.”

Another hoped it would be soon be available to watch in the US, while a third added: “I can’t wait to see this documentary. All these intimate moments behind the scenes.”

The BBC’s 90-minute long documentary Charles III: The Coronation Year will be available to watch on BBC One and BBC iPlayer from 6:50pm on Boxing Day, and gives an intimate look at the biggest royal occasion of the year.

New clips and photographs are gradually being released ahead of the show, including an image of the Coronation rehearsal at Buckingham Palace and another of the King at the Saltfleetby – Theddlethorpe Dune, part of the Lincolnshire Coronation Coast National Nature Reserve.

Earlier this week, the broadcaster shared some sweet moments from behind-the-scenes of the extraordinary event, including one of Page of Honour Prince George wearing his red uniform and fixing his gloves as his grandfather and Queen Camilla get in the Diamond Jubilee State Coach to travel from Buckingham Palace to Westminster Abbey.

In another moment the King can be heard saying “I can fly” as he lifts his arm up in his majestic Coronation robes before he gestures to his four Pages and adds: “Shall we get ourselves organised round there?”

One of the most emotional clips came courtesy of Camilla’s sister Annabel Elliot, who served as ‘Queen’s Companion’ at the Coronation and looked tearful as she accompanied her to Westminster Abbey.

She explained: “When I thought back to being two years old and watching the Queen’s Coronation on a tiny black and white television and there goes this golden coach with my sister in it.

“I can’t explain the feeling because it’s so surreal. This cannot be happening. It was quite a moment.”

Another clip showed King Charles laughing after the Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby could not remember his lines during a rehearsal for the Coronation.
