Jacket potatoes will come out extra fluffy if cooked in different way

Jacket potatoes, also known as baked potatoes, are a favourite in British households, as they’re both cheap and fairy nutritious. The beauty of a jacket potato is that it can be topped with so many things, all of which can make it a completely different dish.

Favourites for fans of jacket potatoes include baked beans, cheese, bacon, tuna salad, or simply some butter that melts perfectly into the starchy vegetable.

The contrast of the fluffy inside of the potato with the crispy skin is what many would argue is the perfectly cooked spud. However, cooking a jacket potato like is often more time consuming than you might expect.

To help, one cooking enthusiast has shared her simple way to cook a jacket potato perfectly, while also minimising the amount of time you have to wait for it to cook, as it can take over an hour if cooked in the oven.

Taking to TikTok, a woman known as ‘The Airfryer Mum’ has shared her simple method for cooking jacket potatoes perfectly in a shorter amount of time.

“If you want the best jacket potatoes, try these in the air fryer,” she told her viewers as she showed off the freshly cooked potatoes.

So how did she make them? The first thing she did is to quickly rinse all of the potatoes she’s cooking in the sink, just to get rid of any dirt that might still be left on it. Then quickly fry them with a kitchen towel.

Next up, wrap each of the potatoes up in aluminium foil before setting them to cook in an air fryer for 30 minutes at 200 degrees, or until they’re soft on the inside. You can check this by simply inserting a fork or a knife into the potatoes.

Then simply take them out of the foil package, add some oil and a sprinkling of salt before putting them back into the air fryer for five minutes at a time until they’re done.

“Now add some butter and whatever toppings you fancy,” she told her viewers.

People were soon left amazed with her simple trick, as many took to the comment section to share their thoughts and tips.

“I’ve just tried this thanks so much they’re insane,” one viewer said. Another user shared: “Been doing this for years.”

“They look lovely,” a third person said.

Another person shared their own cooking method, as they said: “15 min microwave 15 min air fryer NO OIL.”

Several people were also confused as to whether or not you could use foil in the air fryer. However, with most air fryers, it’s completely safe to use foil, as long as it’s done safely to avoid blocking airflow or touching the heating element. However, you should look up the specifications for your specific air fryer about this, just to be safe.
