ITV The Chase's Mark Labbett issues apology to co-stars before aiming sly dig at guest

Mark Labbett issued an apology to his fellow cast members on a celebrity special edition of Beat The Chasers this evening (May 7).

Stephen Mangan tried his luck against the ITV Chasers but was unfortunately caught out by them, as they had 19 seconds remaining. However, he still walked away with £1,000 for his chosen charity – Parents in Need.

Discussing the celebrity’s departure from the ITV quiz show, Chaser Jenny Ryan said: “It was just a step too far for him I think.” Mark Labbett nodded as he said “yeah” multiple times in agreement, while the studio audience clapped Stephen off the stage.

Host Bradley Walsh pointed out that they still had plenty of time left on the clock, to which Mark ‘The Beast’ replied: “Yeah, I apologise to my teammates absolutely for a false start there.”

He explained what had gone wrong as he shouted out the incorrect answer to the first question.

Getting a sly dig in against his competitor, Mark continued: “So I gave him another four seconds and he still lost.”

The audience all sucked in breath at the Chaser’s brutal words as Bradley laughed and said: “You know that’s the way it goes.”

Meanwhile, fans watching at home thought it was a shame that actor Stephen had been sent home.

One user on Twitter said: “I reckon Stephen actually knew a lot of those answers. Shame. #BeatTheChasers.”

Another posted: “What shame… Hard luck Stephen… #BeatTheChasers.” Someone else said: “Stephen started off really well too. #beatthechasers”

A fourth added: “Hard luck Stephen #beatthechasers”. Meanwhile a fifth said: “Poor Stephen”.

Beat The Chasers – Celebrity Special continues Wednesday, May 8 at 9pm
