Inside Peter Phillips’s love life, from US heiress to 13 year marriage to Autumn Kelly

Peter Phillips and Lindsay Wallace have confirmed their split in the latest heartache for the royal, who was previously married to Autumn Kelly, the mother of his two daughters.

The 46-year-old, said to be the late Queen Elizabeth’s “favourite grandson”, began dating his old friend following his divorce in 2021, but this week it has been announced they are no longer together.

A source told The Sun that the relationship simply “ran its course” and it is not thought that anyone else is involved, with clashing schedules and commitments thought to be to blame.

The couple are still on amicable terms, with Ms Wallace having attended several royal events with Peter over the past few years and also being a good friend to his sister, Zara Tindall.

The source explained: “They were friends before their relationship blossomed. But Peter and Lindsay have gone their separate ways as the relationship simply ran its course.”

Peter’s first high-profile relationship was with American heiress Elizabeth Lorio, in line to inherit a fortune from cod liver oil. They were together for two years, even living together for eight months in 2001.

He reportedly also dated British Airways flight attendant Tara Swain for four months in 2002, however his most significant relationship so far was to come the following year when he met Canadian management consultant Autumn Kelly.

Peter and Autumn first crossed paths at the F1 Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal in 2003, with their engagement being announced four years later on July 28 2007.

As Autumn was raised a Catholic, she had to be received into the Church of England before their marriage otherwise Peter would have lost his place in the line of succession due to the terms of the Act of Settlement 1701.

This Act stated that those in line to the British throne could only marry Protestants, however it has since been repealed.

Peter and Autumn married on May 17 2008 at St George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle, later the setting for Prince Harry’s and Princess Eugenie’s respective weddings.

The couple welcomed their first child, and Queen Elizabeth’s first great-grandchild on December 29 2010 at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital – a daughter named Savannah Anne Kathleen.

They welcomed their second daughter Isla Elizabeth on March 29 2012 at the same hospital, but by 2020 Peter confirmed he and Autumn had separated in 2019 and were planning to divorce, with the divorce being finalised by June 2021.

That was the same year Peter began dating Lindsay Wallace, a stay-at-home mum who was an instant hit with the royals and even accompanied her partner to the christening of his nephew Lucas Tindall in late 2021.

But by 2024 the relationship had fizzled out, with a friend of the former couple telling Hello! magazine: “Peter and Lindsay made the difficult decision to separate as they were spending less time together with work and family commitments. Peter’s business commitments and work in F1 meant he has been away and travelling non stop.

“It obviously came as a shock as most people thought they were absolutely rock solid, it’s very sad. Peter has been travelling all over the world and has been incredibly busy and Lindsay is based up in Scotland, so it’s been hard for them to see each other.”
