‘I’m a heating expert and millions of Britons could be eligible for a free boiler'

With the cold winter weather upon us, and energy bills and the cost of living through the roof, a heating expert has revealed that millions of Britons could be eligible for a free boiler through UK Government grants.

Catherine Storer, a heating expert at Essential Site Skills (ESS), has explained how hourseholds can check if they are eligible for the scheme at no cost to themselves.

“As we approach the colder months, it’s crucial for homeowners to ensure their heating systems are efficient and cost-effective. Fortunately, many Brits might be eligible for a free boiler through government schemes like the Energy Company Obligation (ECO) and the Great British Insulation Scheme,” she said.

There are a few straightforward steps that households can make to check their eligibility.

“Firstly, I recommend visiting the Government’s online eligibility checker. This user-friendly platform requires you to fill in a simple form, which takes only a few minutes. It will ask for basic information about your household, such as income and energy usage.

“If you’re on a low income, with a total household income under £31,000 per year, you can contact your energy supplier directly to inquire about your eligibility.

“They can provide specific information tailored to your circumstances,” the heating expert explained.

“Additionally, you should be aware of your home’s Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating.

“Homes with an EPC rating of D to G are often prioritised for these schemes, as they stand to benefit the most from improved heating efficiency.”

However, Catherine reassured that if you don’t meet this specific criteria for a free boiler, you shouldn’t be discouraged as other help is out there.

“Other grants and schemes are available, such as the Home Upgrade Grant, particularly for those off the main gas grid.”

The heating expert suggests contacting your local councils about the schemes as they can provide you with more information on alternatives.

Catherine’s final piece of advice is to keep your contact information – email address or phone number – handy, as energy suppliers need this to contact you if you’re eligible.

She finished by saying: “Remember, improving your home’s heating system not only makes your living space more comfortable but also contributes to reducing overall energy consumption and carbon emissions.”
