Cindy Crawford reminisces with snap of Princess Diana after cameo in The Crown

Cindy Crawford looked back on her time meeting Princess Diana as she posted a snapshot of her cameo in Netflix’s The Crown in view of her eight million Instagram followers.

In the scene from the show’s sixth season, a young Prince William, portrayed by Ed McVey, was inspecting posters of models on his wall, including one of the 57-year-old supermodel.

When asked by Prince Philip, played by Jonathan Pryce, about the women in the posters, William responded: “Claudia Schiffer, Cindy Crawford, and Naomi Campbell.”

“A little cameo on @thecrownetflix,” Crawford captioned the shot.”I still vividly remember visiting Kensington Palace to meet Diana and a teenage William (who had just discovered the ‘Super Models’).”

Along with the caption, Crawford shared the clip on her Instagram stories, before sharing the throwback image captured during her encounter with the late Princess of Wales.

Beneath the post, she included both a white heart and dove emoji, and the photograph directed followers back to a 2017 post where Cindy detailed the unexpected nature of the meeting, describing it as “a cute surprise” for William and Harry.

In the unearthed post, Crawford wrote: “Remembering this inspiring woman today. This photo was taken at Kensington Palace.”

She shared the intriguing story of Princess Diana obtaining the number to her office and personally calling to request her presence. Cindy’s assistant was in shock at the time.

“We finally connected, and she asked if the next time I was in London, I would come by for tea – I think Prince William was just starting to notice models, and she thought it would be a cute surprise for him and Prince Harry,” Crawford explained.

Despite feeling nervous and uncertain about what to wear, Crawford recalled that as soon as Princess Diana entered the room and they began talking, it felt like conversing with a girlfriend.

She praised Diana as a “class act” who exemplified the qualities of a modern-day princess.

Crawford concluded with a heartfelt tribute to the late royal, saying: “Rest In Peace.”

In 2020, during a conversation with her close friend and fellow model Naomi Campbell on the “No Filter With Naomi” series on YouTube, Crawford opened up about feeling “so intimidated” when she initially met Diana.

“I was so intimidated meeting Princess Diana and being at Kensington Palace and how just completely down to earth she was, because there’s so much protocol and I guess, not being English, I don’t understand some of it,” she admitted.

Crawford went on: “I feel like she was in jeans and a cashmere sweater. Not barefoot, but almost that vibe of being super laidback.”
