'I stumbled across mysterious bricked-off room in my 200-year-old house's creepy basement'

A woman had detailed how a leaking pipe led to the chance discovery of a creepy basement underneath her 200-year-old home.

Content creator Mystee (@mysteeipong), who has over 50,000 followers on TikTok, shared the process of uncovering the hidden area with the help of her husband.

Mystee explained that after noticing a leak in her home, she realized water was seeping out from under a bricked-up entrance way.

“You can even see a doorway around it,” she said, as she filmed the perplexing sight.

Her husband tried to break down the wall to reveal the room beyond, but they realised they didn’t have the right tools for the job.

“Luckily they are cinder blocks so they are hollow on the inside, we got through the first part but we have yet to get through the second part,” she said.

In a third clip, the couple made a further attempt to break through the stubborn brickwork, to no avail.

“The reason why we haven’t been able to get through is because this room is filled with rocks,” Mystee explained.

The mystery led Mystee down a rabbit hole of research about her historic New York home, and believes the room may be linked to a subterranean tunnel.

“I didn’t know that my house had ties to the underground railroad,” she said, adding: “We looked up Clarkson and sure enough, eight minutes away there is a station.”

Her research is on-going and she told followers to watch out for part four of her investigation.

Comments flooded in speculating about what the room might have been used for.

Some thought the couple needed to enlist the help of a professional to finally open it up.

“Based on your husband’s tools, I don’t think he’s too eager to get in!” they wrote.

Others thought the room should be left well alone. “Am I the only one that thinks that room is sealed off for a reason?” one said.

Another agreed, commenting: “Bricked in room 200-year-old house that’s the plot to MOST 80s horror movies lol.”

A further commenter said they were terrified by the excavation process, but couldn’t look away, writing: “I have never been so creeped out and invested at the same time.”
