'I deep-cleaned my oven using 17.6p paste and it really did make a difference'

I recently moved into a new home where the built-in oven had been left in a somewhat unclean condition.

With the fridge freezer soon to arrive, I thought I would tackle the cleanliness of the oven.

Not impressed with how it’d been left, I had seen TikTok recommendations for The Pink Stuff, so I thought I’d give it a try.

On the back of the container, I was happy to read: “The Pink Stuff Miracle Cleaning Paste can be used throughout the home and beyond.

“Its multi-purpose cleaning power is tough on ovens, cooker tops, saucepans, sinks, uPVC, barbecues, tiles, glass, showers, garden furniture, rust, paintwork, boats, brass… the list is endless.”

At £1.50 at Poundland for a tub of The Pink Stuff, it worked out as 17.6p per 100g – a complete bargain.

When in my abode, the first thing I did was take out all the trays and wire racks from the oven.

Then I went ahead with a clean, dry cloth and a dollop of the Pink Stuff to rub all over the inside of the oven, including the door.

Afterwards, I dampened the cloth and went in with a bit of elbow grease and cleaned the inside of the oven as best as I could.

Do be cautioned, though, The Pink Stuff said: “Be careful not to apply too much pressure as this could result in scratched surfaces.”

Luckily for me, I don’t think it left any scratch marks on the surfaces I was cleaning.

Noticing that The Pink Stuff really did make a difference, I went on to clean the racks.

Not wanting to make too much of a mess in a small kitchen sink, I decided to clean the racks in the bath.

While the inside of the oven was much improved with The Pink Stuff (although I would want all of the marks completely gone), I wouldn’t recommend the tub for oven racks.

The putty-like cleaning product was falling more through the racks, and into the bath, than on them, so it felt like hard work.

Sure, I wiped the racks down, and burnt-on food came away from the baking tray, but I did wonder if it would be easier to buy new, clean oven racks.

Giving into my curiosity, I found Amazon’s Choice of two for £13.99, and a three-pack of baking trays for £10.49, so I might eventually do that.
