The UK is soon set to sizzle after a chilly cold snap, according to online forecasters. A weather forecast from Netweather.com predicts a top temperature of 24C which will hit both the capital and the Manchester area on May 17.

Meanwhile, the rest of England and Wales should see warmer temperatures too – north of 20C – according to the forecaster. This outlook is shared by rival forecaster WX Charts, although the top temperature is predicted to be 22C and found only in the south-east.

The warmer conditions are expected to be nationwide, with northern Scotland and Northern Ireland also expected to see temperatures at least in the high teens, but possibly in the low twenties, according to Netweather.

Meanwhile, WX Charts predicts May 18 will be hotter too. The UK is expected to have a high of 22C, found in the south-east and West Midlands. Most of the rest of England and Wales will see between 19C and 21C, with the exception of the south-west where it may be a few degrees cooler.

Scotland is not expected to be as warm, but it will still be pleasant, with a top temperature of 19C around Inverness. Northern Ireland is forecast to be cooler still, with the mercury only reaching the mid-teens.

Today:

Mostly dry with sunny spells, however cloudier skies in the east may give the odd light shower at first. Still rather breezy across the southeast, but elsewhere it will feel pleasantly warm away from North Sea coasts.

Tonight:

Dry with clear spells for most areas, though a few mist and fog patches may develop by dawn. Overnight, some low-level cloud will form across central and eastern regions. Chilly.

Friday:

Early morning mist and low cloud soon clearing, otherwise a fine and dry day with plenty of warm sunshine. Still breezy in the southeast, but widely warmer than recent days.

Outlook for Saturday to Monday:

Remaining settled with clear or sunny spells over the weekend, however it will turn cloudier from Sunday with showers arriving for some, these turning heavy and thundery by Monday.
