Expert shares three £10,000 used cars that look like they are worth thousands more

An automotive personality has taken to YouTube to share a number of the best used cars drivers can buy for under £10,000 to impress the neighbours.

Jonny Brighton runs the YouTube channel Cars With JB and regularly posts videos discussing the best buys on the used car market and tips that can help drivers save money on their next vehicle.

In a recent video, Jonny discusses used cars that look as if they are worth thousands more than their current value, recommending the Citroen C6 in particular for drivers wanting a luxurious executive saloon.

He advised: “Every so often, Citroen decide to bring out absolutely stunning cars, many of which end up being worth a small fortune at some point during their existence. I reckon that the C6 is ripe to be one of the next examples of this as it’s a very different looking car, but incredibly cool in my opinion.

“It comes with a 3.0-litre V6 engine that makes 215bhp, taking it from 0-60mph in 9.1 seconds, though of course this is supposed to be a luxury executive car, so speed wasn’t really the motive. The exterior has really clean, flowing lines and the concave rear window is a stunning feature too.”

The first car recommended by Jonny was the Citroen C6, the French company’s flagship executive model which was produced between 2005 to 2012.

Whilst the model was not as popular as the BMW 5-Series or Mercedes-Benz E-Class, the YouTuber stated that he liked the unconventional styling of the Citroen and the clean, minimalist interior.

Nevertheless, the large Citroen does have a reputation for some electrical faults, with Jonny suggesting that buyers avoid examples that cost as little as £3,000, opting instead for a clean, low-mileage model for around £8,000 to £10,000.

Nevertheless, used car buyers looking to stand out in a true performance car were advised to buy a Porsche Boxster 987S, with Jonny suggesting many road users would mistake it for a new car.

He added: “I think the Porsche Boxster 987S is a timeless design. If you look at a well-kept example today in the right spec as a non-car person it could look like a relatively new car, though of course if you know, you know.

“Either way, after the first few years, it came with a 3.4-litre flat-six engine, producing 290bhp and taking it from 0-60mph in 5.2 seconds. They start at about £7,500 and £10,000 gets you into a 2008 model with 90,000 miles on the clock.”

Finally, Jonny suggested that drivers looking for a mix of speed and refinement consider a Jaguar XK8, an old model that could soon increase in value.

He continued: “Taking the top spot we have one of the oldest cars on this list, the old-school Jaguar XK8 in XKR spec, meaning you’ve got a lovely 4.2-litre V8 engine that makes 400bhp, taking it to 60mph in 5.2 seconds.

“It was the successor to the XJS and took a lot of inspiration from the stunning E-Type Jag, particularly around the front end. You get a sporty design, for sure, but not over the top. For me, it’s a very balanced design which will stand the test of time.”
