A Place in the Sun fans slam ‘awful suggestion’ as expert shows ‘risk’ property

A Place in the Sun viewers were left less than impressed on Thursday afternoon as property expert Danni Menzies showed house hunters Dawn and Ian a slightly different home to what they had in mind.

At the start of the programme, Channel 4 viewers learnt the duo were looking for a getaway home in Portugal to accommodate their two older daughters and dogs. With a maximum budget of £280,000, they were looking for a place with privacy, an outdoor garden space and ideally three bedrooms.

However, when they went to their fourth location, the couple revealed they had already seen it online but there was one thing putting them off. As Danni had taken them to the local train station in Nova de Cacela, the home was opposite the platform.

Admitting they had ruled it out when looking at it online, Dawn said: “We ruled it out because of the train. It’s traditional, it’s what we asked for.” Ian added: “The property itself ticked a lot of boxes for us.”

Despite their initial hesitations, the couple decided to have a look around inside. Danni told the camera: “I do understand their concerns, I knew it was a bit of a risk, but the house is so perfect for them in every other way.”

Taking to Twitter to share their thoughts on the odd choice of home, @Fibutton said: “Train tracks outside your front door…a charming feature!”

@mostlystupid commented: “Wait, what?! The house is on the opposite platform? This is an awful suggestion.”

@JaneMon90605097 added: “A house on the railway platform. No thanks!”

@YTVChase joked: “Excellent transport links [sic]”

Once Dawn and Ian had had a wander inside the property, Dawn confessed she felt it was too close to the station, although Ian didn’t seem to mind.

However, it was the property expert’s fifth and final property that blew them away as they fell in love with a three-bedroom home in Estoi.

On the market for £250,000, at the time of filming Dawn and Ian decided to put an offer down of £220,000 at first.

As their first offer was rejected by the seller, a counteroffer was made of £241,500.

With Ian and Dawn revealing that was too much for them, they gave a final offer of £235,000 which was accepted.

Sadly, as the episode drew to a close viewers learnt their sale had fallen through and they had put an offer in on another home.

Danni’s unique choice of house comes after the expert announced she was leaving the Channel 4 show back in 2022.

Speaking about her decision to leave, Danni told Express.co.uk: “I decided to move on for a few different reasons to be honest. I found that travelling as much as I did, I found it hard to establish relationships.

“Also, six years in the same job, travelling loads, it was such an amazing experience, went to lots of great places, met lots of great people.”

A Place in the Sun continues weekdays on Channel 4 from 3:00pm
