Dacia Spring is the affordable electric hatchback with trendy styling and practical range

Dacia has shared the first images of its latest Spring, the company’s first fully electric model that will go on sale in the UK in March 2024.

No stranger to mainland Europe, the Spring has already been on sale in left-hand drive markets since 2021 and retails for just €22,300 (£19,100) in some countries.

A spokesperson for Dacia noted that the new electric model will not be the most powerful or capable electric model in the world but can easily cover everyday motoring at a competitive price.

They explained: “Dacia Spring is the perfect solution for people looking for simple, affordable, and efficient zero-emission mobility.

“Data collected via the vehicle’s on-board connected systems shows that the average daily trip made by Spring drivers covers just 23 miles, at an average speed of only 23mph. In 75 percent of cases, cars are recharged at home.”

Like the rest of the Romanian company’s range, the five-door Dacia Spring has a modern appearance, helped by a set of sleek Y-shaped daytime running lights and sleek grille which hides the charging port.

The Spring also takes a number of styling cues from the larger Dacia Duster, with black plastic wheelarches, a clamshell bonnet and bodyside mouldings giving it a very rugged look.

Inside, the dashboard has been completely reworked for 2024, featuring better quality materials, and a number of YouClip accessory mounts, letting owners place items such as phone holders wherever they would like.

Dacia admits that the Spring is unlikely to break any land speed records, however buyers can choose from two powertrains that both offer ample performance in town and city driving.

Basic examples will have a motor producing 45bhp, whilst higher spec models will receive a 65bhp unit that the company claims will allow for a 0-62mph time of under 14 seconds.

Range is equally practical for most motorists, with the EV capable of covering 137 miles and able to recharge from 20 percent to 80 percent in 45 minutes.

Whilst prices for the UK market will not be revealed until order books open, the Spring is set to be the cheapest full-sized electric car.

Even so, it will be reasonably equipped, with the entry-level Essential model featuring a seven-inch digital display, a radio with USB port and steering wheel adjustments, cruise control and rear parking sensors.

Higher end models also feature air conditioning, a larger touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and copper accents to give the car a classier feel.
