A mum left her 16-month-old baby alone in a playpen for 10 days to go on holiday. Kristel Candelario, 32, could now spend the rest of her life in prison and will be sentenced on March 18 in a court in Cleveland after pleading guilty to murder.
Candelario, from Ohio, left her baby in a playpen while she traveled to Detroit and Puerto Rico. She came back to her home in Cleveland on June 16, 2023, and found her daughter, who was still in the playpen which was soiled with urine and feces, had stopped breathing.
The Cleveland Police and Fire Divisions arrived at the scene and sadly, Jailyn was pronounced dead shortly after their arrival.
The prosecutor’s office said: “The 16-month-old child was extremely dehydrated at the time of death. The 16-month-old child was found in a Pack-N-Play pen on a liner soiled with urine and feces with dirty blankets.”
An autopsy by the Cuyahoga County medical examiner’s office revealed that the toddler had died from starvation and severe dehydration.
Candelario came back to her home in Cleveland on June 16, 2023, and found her daughter had stopped breathing.
