The Chase star Shaun Wallace weighs in on royal rift with Prince Harry

Shaun Wallace claimed Prince Harry may have preferred having never been born into the royal institution as he talked about his work as a criminal law barrister.

The 63-year-old, who is best known as The Dark Destroyer on The Chase, has also enjoyed a successful career in law for over 35 years.

The quizmaster joined host Kaye Adams on the How To Be 60 podcast where he briefly touched on the royal rift with Harry and members of the Royal Family.

It comes after the Loose Women presenter asked Shaun if he had ever felt resentment amongst his peers – who had come from more privileged backgrounds – when he studied for the Bar.

The Chaser was called to the Bar in November 1984 until 1986 and completed his pupillage.

Kaye asked: “Did you ever feel a sense of resentment toward those people around you who were born with privilege?”

“No,” Shaun replied. “If I had to do it all over again I would want to live the same life. I would not change a thing.”

He continued: “The setbacks, the disappointments, the failures, the successes. Why would I want to change that?

“Why would I want to live a life where everything is handed to you on a plate? Who would want that?”

Kaye interjected: “You say that but a lot of people would say, ‘yes, thank you. I’ll have that.'”

The quizzer went on to address Prince Harry’s life as a royal and suggested being born into privilege doesn’t necessarily equate to fulfillment.

Shaun mused: “If you were to ask some people who live that life – sometimes they hate it. Case in point, I’m sure Prince Harry wished he wasn’t born into the Royal Family. I’m sure.

“It’s not always sweetness and light.”

He added: “I think you get a greater sense of accomplishment in relation to climbing from nowhere to being somebody and achieving something.”

The Duke of Sussex has been open about growing up as a member of the royal family and in his memoir, Spare, he discussed the mental health and developmental setbacks he experienced throughout his childhood and later life. The release of his autobiography is said to have strained relations between the duke and his brother Prince William and father King Charles.

Last year, the prince also spoke about his desire to make sure that his children do not suffer as he did during their early years.

“I, as a father, feel a huge responsibility to ensure that I don’t pass on any trauma, or any negative experiences, that I’ve had as a kid or as a man growing up,” Harry said.

Harry and Meghan Markle stepped down from their royal duties in 2020 and the pair have since relocated to California.
