Common hair-washing mistake could 'weaken strands' and lead to hair loss

We all want thick, shiny hair, and we think we know how to get it. We use shampoo, conditioner, oil, and even the right brush. All of these little things add up to make our hair look great.

There are so many hair trends out there, like using LUSH’s Super Milk for smooth hair or rosemary oil to help it grow. It can be hard to know what’s best for your hair type.

But did you know that washing your hair with hot water could damage it?

Dendy Engelman, a globally renowned cosmetic dermatologist and surgeon, claims that hot water can dry out your scalp.

This can make it itchy and take away the natural oils from each hair strand which means your hair won’t look as good as you want it to.

“The state of the scalp has an enormous impact on hair growth and health, so a dry, unhealthy scalp with dandruff can inhibit hair growth or weaken the strands,” he told Byrdie.com.

So, maybe you should try washing your hair with cold water. It can keep your natural oils and even make your hair shinier.

Cold water closes the pores on your scalp and keeps the good moisture in your hair.

Washing your hair with cold water can make it healthier and stop it from getting greasy too quickly.

It might even help you avoid dandruff because your scalp won’t dry out.

Award-winning dermatologist and aesthetic, Dr Hasan Brenar, explained to Tyla: “Your hair follicles are exposed to environmental and oxidative damage, which can lead to hair fall.

“Hair fall accelerates due to the loosened grip of the damaged hair roots. This can also result in premature greying.”

So, if you want nicer hair, try a cold shower. It’s not always nice, but your hair will look amazing.
