Mouldy bathroom grout can often appear as black lines in between the tiles in your shower, and it can be tough to get clean again without using harsh chemicals. Bleach can kill mould but many people do not like using it in an enclosed space like the bathroom due to the toxic fumes.

Instead, a professional cleaner from Adam’s Cleaning says that the best way to get rid of mould is to use tea tree oil. The expert said: “I have a clever and natural trick up my sleeve that utilises the powerful antimicrobial properties of tea tree oil to combat mould and keep your bathroom sparkling and fresh.”

Tea tree oil contains antifungal compounds that can deeply penetrate the mould spores to kill completely.

It is a natural disinfectant that will sanitise the bathroom tile which greatly reduces the chance of mould being able to grow back.

The expert said: “Unlike harsh chemical cleaners, tea tree oil is a natural and environmentally friendly alternative. It poses no threat to your health or the environment, making it ideal for use in enclosed spaces like bathrooms.”

This is an eco-friendly way to clean your bathroom tiles without having to use a harsh chemical cleaner and is very quick as the tea tree oil will break down spores so you will not have to do much scrubbing.

How to clean mouldy bathroom grout

All you need to do is mix 240ml of warm water, 120ml of white vinegar and 15 drops of tea tree oil.

Place the tea tree oil solution in an empty spray bottle and spray a generous amount on the mouldy grout.

Leave the solution to sit on the mould for 10 minutes to give the tea tree oil time to break down the mould.

When the time is up, use a sponge or bristled brush to scrub the now loosened mould and it should come away easily.

The tile grout should quickly become mould-free and white again so you can clean you bathroom without much effort.

Afterwards rinse the tiles with warm water to remove any residue and also make sure the area is completely dry with a clean cloth.

The expert said: “Moisture is a key contributor to mould growth, so keeping the area dry is crucial for preventing future outbreaks”

After taking a shower, make sure to use your bathroom fan or open a window to get rid of any humidity and greatly reduce the chance of mould growth.
