Devastated BBC racing commentator John Hunt bravely fought back tears as he told cowardly crossbow killer Kyle Clifford “the red carpet will be rolled out for you in hell” for the murder of his wife and two daughters. Ex-soldier Clifford tied up his ex-girlfriend Louise Hunt for more than two hours before raping her in a “sexual act of spite”.
He also carried out “acts of extreme violence” against the 25-year-old’s mother Carol, 61, and sister Hannah, 28. The 26-year-old is being sentenced today after he pleaded guilty to three counts of murder, a charge of false imprisonment and two counts of possession of offensive weapons.
Clifford was last week convicted of raping Louise on July 9 the same day the family were slaughtered at their home in Bushey, Hertfordshire. The coward refused to attend court in what was branded “a final insult” to the family.
In a harrowing victim impact statement, esteemed broadcaster John said he “so wanted to deliver these words eye to eye with Kyle”, who he labelled a “psychopath”. He said that even though the triple killer and rapist had lacked the courage to attend court he said he believed his words would reach him as he cowered in his cell at HMP Belmarsh.
But he also said that he believed that had his daughter Hannah not managed to “raise the alarm” by sending a message to her boyfriend before being killed, then he believed Clifford would have laid in wait and killed him too when he arrived home from work.
