Struggling with cloudy, dirty shower screens even after a thorough clean can be very annoying. But there’s a swift and straightforward solution to banish those stubborn stains in less than 10 minutes.
Shower screens often fall victim to limescale, the mineral deposits from hard water that leave an unsightly haze on the glass. As limescale solidifies over time, it clings to surfaces, meaning regular cleaning methods are ineffective. But the bathroom experts at Flair Showers have shared an incredibly easy trick to eliminate these persistent marks: simply use a slice of lemon.
They said: “Cleaning with a simple lemon is a great way to get rid of soap scum and hard water stains.
“The acid in the lemon will break down the build-up of any residue.”
The citric acid naturally present in lemons is potent enough to dissolve the alkaline minerals of limescale and the oily remnants of soap that cling to shower glass.
This method not only clears away the murky streaks and grime commonly found on shower screens but also acts as an antibacterial agent, ensuring a thorough cleanse.
While white vinegar is another effective remedy for limescale, its pungent, acrid odour makes lemons the preferred choice for many, thanks to their more agreeable fragrance.
To maximise the effectiveness of lemons in removing shower screen stains:
All you need to do is cut a lemon in half and then rub it in a circular motion on the shower glass.
Be sure to squeeze the lemon while scrubbing to release the maximum amount of citric acid.
Next, allow the lemon juice to rest on the shower screen for five to 10 minutes. This cleaning solution requires time to dissolve the limescale and soap.
After the allotted time, rinse the shower screen with warm water and use a clean cloth to wipe off any remaining lemon juice residue.
Your shower screen should now be gleaming without any cloudy streaks, and your bathroom will have a pleasant, fresh aroma.
For particularly stubborn limescale, sprinkle a bit of baking soda onto the lemon before wiping the glass.
This will trigger a fizzing reaction that can aid in stain removal.
And some other people swear by white vinegar for removing limescalewhile others say toothpaste and shaving foam can help.
