Mystery surrounds abandoned BMWs covered in bird droppings

Drivers have been left baffled after discovering a pair of abandoned BMWs on the same cul-de-sac which have not moved in more than a year.

The two German executive cars, which are parked back-to-back in Park Way, Formby, Liverpool, have frustrated local residents, many of which are unaware as to who they belong to.

Speaking to the Liverpool Echo, local resident Samual Brown highlighted that he first noticed the abandoned black BMW parked in the location a year ago, which has not moved since.

He explained: “No one saw who dropped it there and it hasn’t moved an inch since then.

“A lot of my neighbours are quite elderly and you can see some struggling to get past whether they’re driving or using a walker. It’s blocking part of a narrow entrance and cutting off space because it’s parked over half the pavement.”

A year since they were last seen in use, the pair of BMWs parked in the cul-de-sac are now in a rather sorry state, being covered in bird droppings and leaves, and one model featuring a flat tyre.

At the time of writing, the DVLA states that the silver BMW has not been taxed since February 1, 2025, with its MOT expiring on March 8. In comparison, the black BMW is still taxed until the start of April, however has not had a valid MOT since October 15 2024.

As a result, the owner of the two models could face fines of up to £1,000 a piece for parking a car on a public road without a valid MOT.

While the mysterious owner of the BMWs is at risk of being fined, they could soon find that the two cars have been towed away by the DVLA.

While it is hard to claim that a car with valid road tax and MOT has been abandoned, as soon as both necessities expire, the motoring authority has the ability to remove the vehicles from the public highway.

While the two abandoned BMWs in Formby have caused a stir for local residents, they are far from the only cars to have been left unattended for more than a year on the public roads.

In Shirley, Solihull, locals have been left increasingly frustrated by an abandoned Hyundai Sonata saloon that was abandoned on the street beside the St James Road Methodist Church car park more than a year ago.

A notice warning that the car would be destroyed if the owner did not move it was first placed on the car six months ago, with one local councillor putting pressure on the abandoned vehicles team to remove the vehicle from the street.
