Andrew's hell: 7 in 10 want Duke out of royal line as 'mountain of Epstein files' linger

Seven out of ten British people want to see Prince Andrew removed from the line of succession to the throne, a new poll for the Sunday Express reveals today.

Today’s Sunday Express poll shows little public sympathy left for the former playboy prince once nicknamed ‘Randy Andy’ – with a mere 16 percent saying they feel he should not be removed from the line of succession and the remaining 15 percent responding as “don’t knows.”

The majority view that he should be removed could only happen as the result of a Parliamentary vote. The monarch has no power to remove anyone from the line of succession and Professor Robert Hazell of University College London’s Constitution Unit explained: “The line of succession is laid down in law, most recently the Succession to the Crown Act 2013, which abolished the rule of male primogeniture and introduced gender equality.”

He added that Andrew’s removal would “require legislation through an Act of Parliament” with most experts agreeing that MPs are unlikely to propose such legislation because his chances of ever becoming king are “extremely slim.”

The duke is currently eighth-in-line to the throne – behind Prince William and his children George, Charlotte and Louis and Prince Harry and his children Archie and Lilibet.

Today’s survey, carried out by UK pollster WeThink, also shows that Andrew’s public popularity has slumped far below that of his rebel nephew Harry.

Asked if the Duke of Sussex should be removed from the line of succession the vote was almost equally split between those who said yes – 46 percent – and those who said no – 41 percent. Thirteen percent were undecided.

Andrew has already been stripped of his military titles and royal patronages – by the late Queen in January 2022 – over his friendship with Epstein as well as being ordered to stop using the title His Royal Highness.

While it remains unlikely that MPs would call for a vote to remove him from the succession line, the prince is preparing for a further possible avalanche of evidence tying him to Epstein and the “sex slaves” in whom the Wall St. financier trafficked.

Two prominent US attorneys, Gloria Allred and Spencer Kuvin – who between them have represented 14 alleged Epstein victims – are demanding the FBI releases a “mountain of evidence” that reportedly includes sex tapes Epstein secretly filmed of his rich and powerful guests.

A third American attorney – top criminal defence lawyer Duncan Levin – also warned last week that there is “nothing barring” federal prosecutors from ordering Andrew to be arrested if he sets foot on US soil in the event of further allegations.

Though he believes it “highly unlikely” there would ever be a request for Andrew’s extradition from the UK to answer charges in America, Mr. Levin added: “If I were advising Andrew, I would want him to be aware of the possibility of arrest here.

“Our system of justice doesn’t place anybody above the law – as we have seen with the prosecution of Trump. A prince, a king, a queen, a president….none of that matters in the US.”
