American's hilarious response after trying beans on toast for the first time

An American got a delightful jolt of flavour after trying out the classic British dish of beans on toast for the first time.

Moving online to share his thoughts on Reddit, he posted: “American Here. UK what the heck? I’ve only seen other people make fun of it so I tried it myself. This stuff was actually so frickin good.”

Alongside the post was a snap of the beans sat on a single piece of toast.

When one fellow Brit defended our food and shared in the joy of the recent food lover, they commented: “One of us! One of us! It’s only mocked by idiots that have never tried it. It’s the perfect blend of tasty, cheap and easy-to-do.”

They went on to suggest: “Even better with mature grated cheddar and black pepper on top, then drizzle Worcestershire sauce over. *Wooster-sheer. Glad you enjoyed it. Now try the rest of our food, as it’s largely the same deal. Unfounded bad reputation.”

Other people suggested adding toppings such as black pepper, poached eggs or even curry powder. When one user asked why beans and toast seemed so “weird” to Americans. One overseas user explained: “Usually it’s seen as very very bare bones. Not too much flavour.”

The comment read: “I mean, you gotta remember we basically eat dessert for breakfast with all of our pancakes, cereal waffles and stuff hahaha. And also it’s a texture thing normally. Mushy baked beans and juice turn the bread all soggy. (I’m on your side remember I love the stuff! But that’s what Americans generally view it as).”

The feedback was happily taken into account by the user who later posted an “Update from the American who tried the glorious beans on toast for the first time! I listened to all y’all’s feedback!” In the post, there was a picture showing two slices of beans on toast, one topped with a fried egg and garnish while the other had grated cheese on top.

The post read: “Left is egg on beans on cheese on toast! Right is cheese on beans on toast! Also mixed woosh-ter-sheer sauce and lots of pepper into the beans! The grated cheddar cheese melted a little weird because I don’t have a broiler or anything.”

However, a point of advice came from another responder saying: “You don’t have to melt the grated cheese, let the hot beans do the work,” to which they replied: “Oh okay! So I pretty much got it on this one? I also made sure to press down the edges of my toast so the whole thing got toasted lol everyone thought my last toast wasn’t toast because of the edges.”

People then told the American to try some classic British food like sausage and mash, fish fingers with chips and peas, and a sausage casserole in a big Yorkshire pudding.

The next day, the American shared a picture of beans on toast, saying: “I’m that American again! I’m loving this beans-on-toast thing! I’ll eat it every single day for the rest of the month to try out the different versions y’all tell me.”

They also said they put “bacon, hella pepper, and cheese mixed inside the beans.” Someone commented, laughing: “Americans realising beans on toast is actually really good after making fun of us for years over it is hilarious haha.”
