Aldi food item with 'active police investigation' recalled by stores


Aldi has sounded the alarm on one of its staple bakery products, urging customers to return affected batches to their nearest store.

The recall alert for tortilla wraps which was issued in March but has now spiralled into an “active police investigation”.

Customers have been warned about potential metal contamination in a batch of Village Bakery Tortilla Wraps sold across its stores.

In a statement, Aldi said: “As a precautionary measure, our supplier is recalling Village Bakery 8 Tortilla Wraps White because this product may have been contaminated with pieces of metal.

“Anyone who bought this product should return it to their nearest store for a full refund. We would like to reassure our customers that no other Aldi products are affected and apologise for any inconvenience caused.”

The original recall stated that packets with all dates up to and including April 29, 2024, were affected and eligible for refunding.

No other Aldi products are affected and the retailer has reassured customers that the 8x31g mini wraps are safe to eat.

They urged: “All our products go through rigorous safety and quality checks. We are recalling this product as a precautionary measure.”

The tortilla wraps have been withdrawn from sale in “all stores”, according to Aldi.
