Air fryer toad in the hole is ‘comfort food at its best’ ready in 25 minutes – recipe

Air fryers have become all the rage in recent years, with them using less energy and taking less time to cook food than ovens.

What’s more, they can almost cook anything from cake to toad in the hole, and BBC Good Food recently shared a delicious recipe to cook in the appliance.

The notes said: “Use your air fryer to make an easy toad in the hole with chipolatas.

“This is comfort food at its best, served with gravy and your favourite veg on the side.”

This recipe serves two people and takes less than 25 minutes to cook from start to finish.

Ingredients:

Three teaspoons of sunflower or olive oil

Six pork chipolatas

70g plain flour

One egg

100ml milk

Gravy and green vegetables, to serve

Method:

Pour one teaspoon of oil into two individual pie dishes and then put these in the air fryer and heat to 200C.

Brush the sausages with the remaining oil and carefully divide these between the hot tins. Season with black pepper and cook for three minutes.

Meanwhile, beat the flour, egg, and milk along with some salt together in a jug to make a smooth batter.

Divide the batter between the tins and cook for around eight to 10 minutes until it has puffed up and turned golden brown.

Serve with gravy and green vegetables and you’ll have a delicious dinner which can be doubled if you are cooking for a family.

If you want to serve the toad in the hole alongside some mashed potatoes, BBC Good Food also shared a recipe for the “perfect” side dish.

They recommended boiling potatoes until tender before draining and returning them to the heat to dry for two minutes.

Heat some milk and butter in a small pan before pouring them over the potatoes and mashing with an electric whisk or masher.

Add some cream or cheese and beat with a wooden spoon until smooth and creamy, seasoning with salt and pepper.
