Roast potatoes are essential for any good roast dinner. The golden and cripsy exterior matched with soft fluffy insides is combination that just does it every time. A batch of roasties can easily be made with the most basic ingredients – potatoes, oil, and salt, still turning out perfect.
However, when it comes to roast potatoes, there are many small touches and additions you can add to put your own twist to it, and Johanne Gallager, who alongisde her husband Adam, co-founded food blog Inspired Taste, shared her go-to method for “the most easiest, most delicious oven roasted potatoes” made. The self-proclaiming “food lover” credits her easy recipe to one special ingredient
“Smoked paprika. My secret ingredient for the tastiest roasted potatoes! Smoked paprika is wonderful in this recipe and adds a smoky, sweet flavour. It also adds a bit of colour,” she writes.
Now home cooks can easily put what she says to the test, with the simple recipe only having five steps to it.
Ingredients
- 1/2 pounds potatoes
- 1 1/2 tablespoons oil e.g grape seed oil, vegetable oil or avocado oil
- 3/4 teaspoons fine sea salt
- 1/2 teaspoon fresh ground black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
- Fresh herbs like chopped chives, parsley or mint, optional
Method
- Preheat the oven to 425F (220C). Line a baking sheet with baking paper or use a silicone baking mat
- Chop the potatoes into 1-inch chunks and add them to a medium bowl along with the oil, salt, pepper, and smoked paprika.
- Toss well, then spread the seasoned potatoes onto the prepared baking sheet.
- Roast the potatoes until golden brown on the outside and tender on the inside, 25 to 35 minutes. After 20 minutes, check the potatoes and use a flat spatula to stir them for the most even browning
- Scatter fresh herbs over the warm potatoes and serve
The potatoes can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to five days. You can also freeze them. The best way to do that is to layer the cooled potatoes on a baking tray and freeze them for an hour before transfering them into a freezer-safe container or bag, where they can be stored frozen for up to six months.
