3M fires long-time executive Michael Vale amid 'inappropriate personal misconduct; claims


3M, an American multinational company operating in the fields of industry, worker safety, healthcare and consumer goods, announced on Monday it fired long-time executive Michael Vale amid “inappropriate personal misconduct claims.”

His termination went into effect May 12, according to a statement released from the company, and his dismissal is due to “inappropriate personal conduct and violation of company policy, unrelated to the company’s operations and financial performance.”

The statement did not elaborate on what Vale is accused of doing.

A spokesperson for the company could not immediately be reached by USA TODAY Monday.

The search for a successor

The company has initiated a search for Vale’s successor.

Leaders of 3M’s Safety and Industrial Business, Consumer Business, and Transportation and Electronics Business now report to 3M chairman and chief executive officer Mike Roman in the interim, the statement reads.
