Woman shares her dad's simple 'kick' test to tell if your plants need watering

A keen gardener has shared a quick trick to help you know when your plants need watering. Samantha Rose, a popular TikToker from the US, revealed that all it takes is a little kick.

Samantha, who regularly shares tips on food and wellness with her 106,000 followers, put on her gardening hat for this video.

She shared some handy advice her dad gave her about knowing when outdoor plants need water, as previously reported by MailOnline.

Instead of touching the soil, Samantha suggests kicking the pot to test its weight. If it moves easily, she says it likely needs water.

In the video, Samantha shares: “My dad taught me one of the best garden hacks. This is going to save you a lot of time, and a lot of plant’s lives.

“The best way to tell if your plant needs water? Just kick the pot.”

She then gently kicks the pot, which barely moves. “If it doesn’t move, it doesn’t need water,” Samantha explains. “If it moves, it needs water.”

Her followers loved the tip, with the video receiving 81,000 likes and hundreds of comments.

One person said: “Not going to lie as a professional horticulturist, I walk around the greenhouses doing this all day and tipping hanging baskets!”

Another added: “Thank your dad for EVERYTHING!” And a third said: “If it works it works.”

Some followers joked that they had tried the tip – and ended up breaking their pots.

One user wondered what to do if their attempt had failed, asking: “Hmm I tried it and it broke what does that mean? Does it need more water?”
