Stains appear on so many surfaces. For tea and coffee lovers, mugs can quickly settle on them and refuse to budge.
If you are a tea and coffee lover, you will know the feeling of finishing your drink and realising that your favourite mug has an unsightly dark ring stain.
Dark liquids can often leave cups stained, and this is normal for a well-loved mug, but it doesn’t mean that have to stay in that condition.
The stains inside a ceramic cup or mug are caused by tannins. Tannins are a type of plant compound naturally found in foods and beverages, such as tea, coffee, chocolate and wine.
To help preserve the life of your favourite drinking mug, Jade Hampton took to the Mrs Hinch Army Cleaning Tips Facebook page to share her hack.
Posting a before and after picture of the stained mug and the product she used, Jade wrote: “My Partner’s work cup before and after.
“Had 20 years worth of tea stains (we live in a hard water area) and had tried bleach, soda crystals, baking soda and white vinegar to no avail.
“Just one tablespoon of Astonish Clean and Revive powder and it worked far better than bleach.”
The after-results were shocking, especially given that the stains had been left to sit in the cup for 20 years.
