Fans heading to Wimbledon this morning were faced with severe delays because of a signal problem on the London Underground. Thousands of people descended on the All England Club as the Grand Slam tournament entered its second week. The likes of Novak Djokovic, Iga Swiatek and Mirra Andreeva were all on the schedule with the fourth round in full swing.
However, many people were faced with delays on the District Line due to a signal failure at Putney Bridge. Southfields is the closest station to the All England Club, with hordes of fans passing through on each day of the tournament. In addition to Southfields, the District Line also stops at Wimbledon Park and Wimbledon.
On their website, Transport for London said: “Severe delays Edgware Road to Wimbledon due to a signal failure at Putney Bridge. If you’re travelling beyond Earl’s Court, take the first train and change there if necessary.
“Severe delays between Whitechapel and Barking eastbound only due to train cancellations. Tickets are being accepted on London Buses and South Western Railway. Good service on the rest of the line.”
