BBC commentator Katherine Downes said: “I think they’re asking for a replacement for one of the court team. I don’t know whether it’s the ball kids. Someone has been removed from court for feeling dizzy and is spending some time in the shade.
“The umpire is just calling up to ask for a replacement and somebody to come and give assistance to the member of staff.”
Boucharinc announced to spectators inside Court 18: “Ladies and gentlemen we’re just waiting for one ball boy to replace someone who was not feeling well. We’ll return to play as soon as the ballboy comes back.”
With no replacement quickly available, the umpire decided to reorganise the ball kids himself as they were a person light.
He added: “I think this is what we’re going to do actually. We need someone from the back on the receiver’s side who will come to the net. Can we do that? OK, perfect, alright.”
Downes told viewers at home: “Louis Boucharinc is going to rearrange the layout of the ball kids to make sure the match can resume. They’re not going to bother waiting for a full replacement.”
The match continued as De Minaur took the third set to a tiebreak – which he won 7-2.
