Wheeler Dealers star ‘in tears’ over Edd China exit claims ‘I was used'

Wheeler Dealers host Mike Brewer has claimed he felt “used” by former co-star Edd China after the duo split ways seven years ago.

The TV host revealed that he was left in tears after the pair parted ways and feels he was simply a “tool to create a career”.

Mike and Edd presented Wheeler Dealers for 13 years from when the first series was broadcasted in 2003 until 2017.

Edd announced he would depart the popular car restoration show in March 2017 and now hosts his own shows and a YouTube channel.

At the time, Edd said he left the show due to disagreements over the direction of the programme and the duo have continued to claim there is no feud between them.

Mike continued to stress there was “no mystery” behind the split but accepted he was hurt by Edd’s decision to call it a day.

Speaking on the Road to Success podcast, Mike said: “One day he was a Wheeler Dealer and the next day he wasn’t. He just didn’t want to do it anymore.

“He didn’t want to be a part of that world. He didn’t want to be a part of my life. He wanted to do his own thing, there was nothing I could do to change that.

“I cried the day he left, I cried my eyes out. I had a conversation with him on the phone when that was over crying my eyes out saying how much I’m going to miss him and how much I love the guy but he just left. Nothing I can do to change it.

“He has no desire to call me. I said right at the very beginning of this I’ve been used through my life by people for what I can achieve and I realised if there is any controversy, yeah I felt used. I was a tool at that period of time to create a career and that’s fine.

“I’m fine with that. I’ve done it for hundreds of people, thousands of people… I was a means to an end, simple as that.”

After Edd’s departure, the show was co-hosted by top mechanic Ant Anstead for three seasons.

Since 2021, McLaren F1 mechanic Marc Priestley has been involved in the show.

When Road to Success asked to reveal the last time he had met up with Edd, Mike made a stunning revelation.

He replied: “Seven years ago. He didn’t want to be a part. He didn’t want to be a Wheeler Dealer anymore. It’s as simple as that. There’s no controversy or mystery behind it.”
