J D Wetherspoon has announced a major change will be hitting its pub menus across the UK this month.

The popular pub chain has confirmed four new gourmet burgers will be added to its menu from Wednesday, May 14, in addition to its existing burger range. The four new additions mean customers now have a choice of seven gourmet burgers in total at Wetherspoon pubs, all of which are served with six beer-battered onion rings, iceberg lettuce, tomato and red onion, and chips or a side salad, on request. All of the burgers are made with 100% British beef and come freshly cooked to order, and traceable from farm to fork.

The four new burgers being added to the gourmet range from May 14 include a Cheese Meltdown, the Big Smoke, Buffalo and BBQ Stack.

The Cheese Meltdown comprises either a 6oz beef patty or fried buttermilk chicken, topped with American-style cheese, smothered with Emmental and Cheddar cheese sauce.

The Big Smoke features a pulled BBQ beef brisket topped with American-style cheese, maple-cured bacon, with a choice of a 6oz beef patty or fried buttermilk chicken.

The Buffalo burger combines fried buttermilk chicken, blue cheese sauce, Naga chilli sauce and American-style cheese, all topped with a spicy chicken wing, and the BBQ stack is a plant-based patty, stacked with six onion rings and covered with BBQ sauce.

The buttermilk chicken in Wetherspoon burgers is made with 100% chicken breast which has been marinated in buttermilk, making the chicken juicy, tender and full of flavour.

All of the gourmet burgers include a drink as part of the meal price, with a large selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks to choose from.

Wetherspoon said the average price of a gourmet burger in 343 of its pubs is £10.19 with a soft drink, or £11.72 with an alcoholic drink, but prices may vary by location.

Wetherspoon chief executive John Hutson said: “We are always keen to offer our customers the widest choice of good quality meals at value-for-money prices. We believe the four new burgers will prove popular with a wide range of customers at our pubs.”
