Weather maps reveal when UK will be blasted by 742-mile wall of rain after double storm

Major disruption is expected in the coming days as Storm Jocelyn hits the UK just one day after Storm Isha left four people dead.

Storm Isha saw winds of up to 107mph over the weekend, with a clean-up well underway on Monday. But as Storm Jocelyn hits the UK, more rain is expected in the coming days as weather maps warn of a 742-mile rain wall blasting into the UK on Friday morning.

The majority of the UK will be hit with rain from Tuesday evening, with Friday, January 26 bringing heavy downfalls which could result in flooding hours after Storm Jocelyn.

A number of amber warnings are in place from this evening, while other areas have been issued yellow warnings. The Met Office warned of more power cuts and damage to buildings, as well as longer journey times and cancellations.

The latest weather maps show that at midnight on Friday morning, nearly the whole of the UK will be covered in a giant deluge of rain, spanning more than 700 miles from the northern tip of Scotland down to the south west of England.

Despite the onslaught of torrential rain, maps compiled using date from the Metdesk reveal that temperatures will remain mild, with the mercury rising to 10C in Wales, 11C in the south of England and the Midlands, 10C in the north of England, while it will hover between 5C and 10C across Scotland.

Amber warnings have been issued in western and northern Scotland from Tuesday evening.

These areas include:

  • Tobermory
  • Portree
  • Stornoway
  • Ullapool
  • Thurso
  • Wick

The Met Office issued another yellow warning for rain, this time over Wales, to go with five other warnings for rain or wind covering much of the UK.

A number of train companies have urged passengers not to travel with major disruption expected on some lines. Avanti West Coast called on customers to avoid going north of Preston after 3.30pm, while TransPennine Express “strongly urges” avoiding travel between Scotland and London after 3pm.

There are 15 flood warnings in place for England, as well as an additional 101 flood alerts. Much of the UK saw rain this morning, as downfalls started across the country. Tonight is expected to bring strong gales and more rain.
