Weather expert has say on Storm Pierrick as Britain to be blasted again

Britain will continue to face wet and windy weather conditions as Storm Pierrick will bring strong gusts up to 50mph in several parts of the country. The storm which was named by the French Met Office is “stronger in the UK than France”, a weather expert has said.

Meteo France’s Storm Pierrick has already begun to hit many parts of the UK as localised flooding and strong winds wreak havoc.

The storm came days after the country recovered from the chaotic Storm Kathleen.

Jim Dales, a meteorologist with British Weather Services told Express.co.uk: “It has been a poor day. I expect there will be localised flooding occurring up and down the country, particularly in the north. I think that will continue tomorrow morning.

“The storm has been named by the French authorities for their reasons but I think it’s affecting the UK more than France.

“Wind gusts upto 40-50mph are likely to be there in the country. Things might fly around, trees may fall and it’s possibly fairly widespread. It will take five-six hours before it dies out and that will be the end of that one.

However, Mr Dale was hopeful that sunny spring weather is around the corner. He added: “We are in a transition zone now, so maybe this is the last leg of the wet and windy weather together, hopefully.

“While the weather might settle down a bit, I still feel north-west Scotland will see some rain at times but a respite for other parts of the country.

“However, another frontal system is moving towards the country tomorrow. The system will have an impact on the west and the north. It starts from Northern Ireland in the morning and moves towards the UK later by the day.”

In Scotland, 20-40mm of rainfall is expected in some areas until 6pm on Tuesday, while a few places could see as much as 50-60mm.

Affected areas include Edinburgh, Glasgow, Perth and Aberdeen. Further rainfall is forecast in western Scotland between 9am and 10pm on Wednesday and may cause flooding, with 20-30mm of rain expected in most places and 40-60mm on high ground.

The Met Office meteorologist Alex Burkill said: “Many of us will be under the influence of relatively deep low pressure currently just towards the south west of the UK.”

This Evening and Tonight:

Any residual rain clearing eastwards, and showers easing, leaving clear skies for many. Turning chilly with lighter winds. Cloud and rain arriving into the far west by dawn. Isolated frost patches, mostly in the north.

Wednesday:

A drier to start for many before rain and cloud continues to spread eastwards through Wednesday, turning particularly heavy in northwest Scotland. Windy in the west, and milder than Tuesday.

Outlook for Thursday to Saturday:

Turning drier, albeit rather cloudy, in the south on Thursday and Friday, but remaining changeable in the north. Heavy showers, mainly in the north, on Saturday. Turning warmer.
