‘We need to hit the Kremlin’ Putin on brink as Ukrainians rally in response to air assault

She told the Kyiv Independent: “I was near the window, the missile flew right before my eyes.

“We heard two missiles, one after the other, it was so loud. By a miracle, her windows stayed intact, while the door was nearly blown off.”

Olena said she was furious with the “Russian “M*********ers”.

She added: “Honestly, I can’t find the words to describe my opinion on Russians. We need to hit the Kremlin and Moscow, then, perhaps, the situation will somehow change.”

Yevhen Chyzhevsky, a 40-year-old employed at a warehouse in the Ukrainian capital, said: “I arrived, and everything was burning. But my colleagues are alive, and that’s what matters.

“Everything was okay, and then boom. And now it’s all f***ed.

“The butchers wished us a happy New Year.”

Ukrainian foreign minister Dmytro Kuleba said after the series of Russian strikes: “Today, millions of Ukrainians awoke to the loud sound of explosions. I wish those sounds of explosions in Ukraine could be heard all around the world.”

Ukrainian Air Force spokesman Yurii Ihnat claimed Russia used hypersonic, cruise and ballistic missiles.

He said: “Russia attacked with everything it has in its arsenal.”

General Sir Richard Barrons, former commander of Joint Forces Command, told Sky News that this attack was “unusual” compared to previous Russian bombardments.

He said: “Since the invasion began, Russia has used about 11,000 missiles and drones. So, 110 is quite a large number for one night’s work.

“Russia can probably make about 65 cruise missiles a month now and it imports others from places like Iran, so it was a major effort. But then the sinking of the landing ship was a major disaster for the Russian military.”
